Monitor and Manage were founded in 2010 and provide wireless dry bulk storage technology and smart energy automation services.
The company is based in Nottingham and Pete Griffiths has been the Managing Director of the company since 2011. Before joining Monitor and Manage, Pete spent over 13 years working at Experian in several roles including Commercial Director and Commercial Project Leader.
Monitor and Manage work with customers across a variety of industries to provide wireless in-store monitoring and fan control to grain, pellet and feed product owners, farmers and storekeepers.
Their hardware products include wireless digital crop temperature probes, ambient temperature sensors, gas sensors, relative humidity sensors and fan control units.
These calibrated devices are used to monitor the temperature and humidity of crops harvested and stored by farmers who need to keep them in optimum condition, as well as avoid overuse of drying and cooling equipment.
They also monitor the humidity and carbon monoxide off-gassing of wood pellets stored by ports, power stations and district heating plants for powering biomass boilers, to help prevent people being exposed to deadly fumes or any risk of wood pellets self-igniting.
Customers can monitor their stores and automated fan control or extraction processes 24/7 using Monitor and Manage’s online portal. This is accessible on any internet-connected PC, mobile phone or tablet device and gives them the ability to remotely switch equipment on and off.
In addition, they receive email and text message alerts to keep them informed about anything that may require their attention, so they can ensure everything is working in a way that maximises efficiency.
Analox got involved with Monitor and Manage after the company identified the need for carbon monoxide (CO) monitoring for wood pellets, and required gas sensors to integrate into their monitoring system.
Pete said: “In 2012 Monitor and Manage worked with Drax power station’s chemical engineers studying the behaviour of wood pellets in bulk long term storage and monitored things like condensation and the toxicity of the environment.
“We identified the key drivers for self-heating and off gassing so Monitor and Manage designed an ATEX certified, calibrated wireless service to monitor this. I was searching for types of chemical cells online when one of the investors of our business said he knew Mark Lewis who is the Managing Director at Analox, and suggested we check out their company. So I looked them up and spoke to Paul Branton, Director of Products, about what we required and they had exactly what we needed, people focussed on certifiable quality.
“The MEC sensor was the ideal solution as it can monitor carbon monoxide, but the default range of ppm levels that it measured needed changing to meet our requirements.
“Since then people have been buying our calibrated systems which include the gas sensors, and we have purchased an SDA that was built and customised by Analox to calibrate them. The SDA had to be designed specifically for us so it would calibrate the bespoke settings of the MEC. We really valued Paul’s knowledge and insight, and how he used what Analox had and tailored it to our needs quickly, economically and with high precision. The production of a product like this gives people peace of mind, as it is a quality piece of kit with a warranty, and the purchaser of our system knows with confidence that people are safe at the end of the day.”
Matt Lambert, Sales Manager, UK, Ireland and Middle East, said: “Monitor and Manage needed a CO sensor that met certain requirements, so we helped them by designing and developing a sensor which catered to their specific needs. After the bespoke MEC was successfully integrated into their monitoring system, they required a specialised SDA to calibrate the sensors and we were more than happy to oblige. I have nothing but positive things to say about this company as they are pleasure to work with.”
