Brexit: “Why being niche is more important than ever”

Despite being based in what some might consider “the middle of nowhere” in a small market town in North Yorkshire resembling The Shire from Lord of The Rings more than a Metropolis, we’ve always been a global company.

Even in the early days when the majority of our sales were into Aberdeen, the dive vessels using our equipment were far flung around the world’s oceans.

Around 90% of Analox Sensor Technology’s sales are outside of the UK so when “Brexit” recently became a reality we, like any other company began assessing what it means for us and our customers. And probably like most other companies, we threw up as many questions as we did answers.

We do pride ourselves on being a bit weird though. In itself, perhaps a weird thing to say? But try finding another company who keep people safe in fast food restaurants and 300m under the North Sea – you’ll need more than Google to help you with that one, trust me.

Political and economic uncertainty can be unnerving for many. But we remain resolute in both what we offer and just as importantly what we don’t. We stay true to our value set in terms of how we behave and who we deal with throughout our supply chain – from component supplier, through to our own trusted sales channels.

If you want a very basic, personal carbon monoxide monitor then we’d suggest you approach one of the 24 (at the last count) different brands offering such a device as we can’t add any value to you here. But if you want to monitor carbon monoxide in your saturation diving system to be compliant with both NORSOK and BS8478 requirements then give us a call and we’d be delighted to help you.

If your requirement is to spot check your breathing air every three months as cheaply as possible and accuracy isn’t important to you then you can use colorimetric tubes. But if, like one of our latest customers you want to monitor your breathing air in the middle of the desert, outside, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and comply with EN12021 requirements then our Sales team would love to understand more about your application.

Being niche is more important than ever. The political and economic landscape may be changing but our core offering remains the same and we welcome any “weird” and wonderful gas monitoring challenges you can throw at us (and if you’d like to pay in Pounds Sterling that would be even better!)
